| Update: Nokia N8 firmware update PR1.1 Posted: 14 Jan 2011 05:20 PM PST Roughly about 8 hours ago, a new Nokia N8 firmware update was released. This blog had previously reported that a confirmed update shall be scheduled for January 2011. A previous performance fix was given to the Nokia N8 public in November last year. I am personally receiving live updates about the firmware update which is exclusive to this blog only. Its easy to get the update but the reality behind the update is secret to Nokia. Update 1:I have found an easy way to get the update on to the N8. Update 2:Rumours say that Nokia has terminated this firmware from their own servers or denied the access. It shows that there are new updates but the file isn’t there. Either the file still has to go through surgery. There are some anonymous tweets regarding an Indian Product code 0599255 that received the new firmware, but unfortunately, Navifirm isn’t showing it yet. Navifirm finally showed the update.
There are a few new changes:
A blogger at @MyNokiaBlog reported that this firmware update should have been available in a weeks time. In the morning, a confirmed Pr1.1 screenshot was seen of the update. All of these photos are Scandinavian because they received the update first. More updates: Update 3: a file mentions “Split Screen Qwerty Implementation version 1″ . A Split Screen QWERTY in PR1.1 sounds too good to be true. Update 4: A similar file mentions 3×11, 4×10, 4×12 meaning a half qwerty and a custom qwerty. An alone split screen portrait qwerty can make it biggest update ever. Update 5: A daring person who flashed his N8 says that he didn’t notice any change. Update 6: Some who flashed their handsets with the new firmware are also coming stating that the update is only a performance update rather than any service or functionality update as promised by Nokia. Even though its mentioned that the default Web Browser improved a little, no UI changes are seen yet. I still haven’t lost hope yet. Another way of installing the update follows: Select applications and then tools. Then click on phone setup and SW update. Install the update. It should be fully functional. More reports on the updates as they come out. |
