Top 20 Symbian^3 OS apps countdown Posted: 29 Dec 2010 03:58 AM PST I recently revealed the top 8, now its time to reveal 4 more apps that qualify our top 20 list. Opera Mini 5.1 was in the spotlight yesterday, but now, its time to replace it with a newer version called Opera Mini 10.1. So here goes ninth place. Opera Mobile is more than a traditional web browser, it’s a must-have traditional web browser. This version interprets the web site HTML and the scripting in the client itself, lets not forget to mention the added benefits of the text selection and a multi-tabbed interface. All this means that Opera Mobile has ‘Turbo mode’, which means Opera’s servers compress the original site code and content, ejecting it through the air for decompression within Opera Mobile itself. Have a look at the different versions.
Next up, is Snaptu for tenth place. Designed for small-screened feature handsets, this application works evenly well with the large-screened Symbian^3 family. Snaptu brings whole online life together in one, from social networks, news, TV listings, movies to work. Plus it’s customisable according to the user choice and extensible, with new modules being added weekly.
Skype has been a major issue with the Nokia N8 for the past month or so. Too many glitches or no proper version for the public, no video calls. Thats the reason it fell under eleventh place. Despite a similar competitor, Fring, it could have never replace the same service as Skype. Thats why Skype remains the service most people think of in the professional world, instant messaging and group conferencing are the main things that are needed. Its latest version works like a treat on the latest Symbian^3 family, with a better interface than ever, better behaved background operation, lower resource requirements and better voice quality. For twelfth place, the useful Wikipedia reader. Many versions of this in the past have tried to be perfect but when this version of Wikipedia arrived, all fell silent, it offers a mobile-optimized view into the full Wikipedia content, online but it doesn’t have the same looks as the web browser Wikipedia.

Nokia N8 Camera used for Magazine Cover Posted: 28 Dec 2010 11:37 AM PST For the first time in the history of mobile phones, the Nokia N8 camera is being used to shoot entire movies and to take pictures for magazine covers. Yah, you heard it. The Nokia N8 camera has 12 megapixel and is much better compared with the poor iPhone 4 camera of 5 megapixel. The camera of this high-end-user smartphone is really very powerful when it comes to take quality pictures. Check here our N8 camera review. That’s a test we made already here at the Nokia N8 Portal and we got amazed with the results. Well, the guys of South African PIX Magazine loved the N8 and didn’t get disappointed with it, by shooting the cover of their own magazine only with the POWERFUL Nokia N8 (apologies for the caps). Check the video below:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=VodhwvJZfL0 As you can see from the video, a photographer from SA used the Nokia N8 with a tripod and snapped a blonde. Well, I can only say that this is the perfect combination: a beautiful blonde + the Nokia N8 Camera. It “flashes”! |
